A Classic Hotel Restored

Originally erected in 1941, the Gale South Beach & Regent Hotel were two trendsetting properties located on an up-and-coming escape haven of Miami known as South Beach. Architect L. Murray Dixon had the unique vision to build two venues of Tropical Art Deco fashion; a style the pioneer is today credited with developing.

Both the Gale and the Regent of the ‘40s shared similarities in architecture and design, and it wasn’t until 1964 that the sister properties were permanently linked by bridge. Dixon’s innovations have since earned the retro estate recognition in the National Register of Historic Places. Through the decades, luxury resorts and beach clubs began to overtake South Beach, and the once-bustling duo known as the Gale South Beach & Regent Hotel began to fade into the beach town’s backdrop, defeated from neglect – temporarily.

The renowned Miami hospitality group Menin Hospitality took advantage of the sleeping lot at the southwest corner of 17th Street and Collins Avenue, with a plan to resurrect the joint-hotel, accompanied by a sense of renewal and glory. Joining forces with development team Crescent Heights, architects ADD Inc and construction crew GT McDonald Enterprises, the venture would bring a fallen South Beach landmark upright and back to life.

Nestled near the burgeoning Lincoln Road and the spectacular Atlantic Ocean, the awakening of the Gale South Beach & Regent Hotel promises grandeur among its equally opulent neighbors that line the South Beach strip.

A stroll through the lobby reveals a first glimpse of the ‘40s replica, rich with deep wooden-hued floors and panels from imported oak. A balance of light pours from classic chandeliers and ‘40s sconces, along with natural sunlight outlined by white marble window frames. Art Deco-inspired loungers transport company back to the famous era, which continues to translate throughout.

A total of 87 guest rooms convey the subtle, yet lavish boutique appeal of the Gale Hotel. Designed to cater to every type of retreat, from overnight to extended vacation, guest rooms vary in size, while still maintaining mutual design themes and elements. Bedroom walls are clad in a black photo frame collage depicting the splendor of the ‘40s. Cozy beds and modish furniture are the main focus of the lengthy room, laced with Italian accents, marble bathroom appointments, Menin Hospitality’s signature GUYandGIRL amenities and state-of-the-art technology. A stay in the Signature Terrazzo or Signature Grande suites extends elegance outdoors onto a private balcony that views the essence of South Beach, form the ocean sunrise each morning to the colorful skyline each night.
